| Any student who has
a grievance is entitled to have the problem dealt with in a fair and
equitable manner and processes are in place to assess a grievance
particularly one that affects a student's progress.
This policy describes the grievance process and the responsibilities of those
involved. The types of grievances encountered include:
- Complaints about fees, refunds and assessment
- Recognition of Prior Learning
- Harassment or bullying
- Discrimination
- The teaching process
Students
Students have the right to question the grade awarded to them if they feel that
the assessed work has been unfairly or inappropriately assessed, they must
discuss the issue with you prior to lodge a Grievance Appeal form with the
Principal. Refer to the details below for more information about the lecturers' and
the students' responsibilities in this process.
All grievances will be acknowledged in writing and an outcome achieved in 14
days. Examples of grievances include:
- Academic assessment
- Recognition of prior learning
- Discrimination
- Access and conditions
- Fees.
How to lodge a grievance
Collect the appropriate Grievance Form from the Administration office and fill in
the details. Before lodging an appeal you must have already attended a meeting
with your lecturer in an effort to resolve the problem.
If you have a grievance regarding your assessment in a specific subject, complete
the grievance form and submit it to the principal, who will make an appointment
to discuss the issue with you.
The outcome
The Principal will notify you in writing of the outcome of your grievance appeal no
later than 14 days after lodging the form.
Lecturers
Students have the right to question the grade awarded to them if they feel that
the assessed work has been unfairly or inappropriately assessed, they must
discuss the issue with you prior to lodge a Grievance Appeal form with the
Principal. Refer to the policy above for more information about the students'
responsibilities in this process. Follow the steps listed:
- Step 1 - Try to encourage resolution of the problem informally with the student.
- Step 2 - If there is no resolution refer the student to the Grievance appeal process and the
procedure for lodging an appeal.
- Step 3 - Provide the Principal with as much background information as possible. If it an
academic assessment matter ensure that the assessment worksheet is up to date
and filed in the student's record.
